Desert Island Discs - Carole Kaszak, soprano

Mozart Clarinet Concerto – the perfect composition for clarinet by my favourite composer. The music expresses sheer joy, contemplation, peace, and finally, triumphant acceptance, and I performed it as part of my Graduate and Licentiate degrees which were the foundation for my music career in London for over 35 years.

Chopin Etudes Op 25 no 1 in A Flat - played by Nikolai Lugansky in the way I wish I could have achieved but it is impossible to come anywhere near his amazing technique and exquisite range of tone.

Rachmaninov Piano Concerto No 2 – my long-term goal was to master it when I retired but this was interrupted by unforeseen health issues three months into retirement. So, when I recovered, I joined the RCS instead!

Goin’ Back - Carole King
At an age when one looks back rather than forward, this version says it all.

The First and Last Man - Ralph McTell - An early song of his with such telling lyrics especially relevant to events today – do listen to this.

The Protecting Veil - John Tavener /Stephen Isserlis – to guide you on the way to heaven

Nocturnes – Lauridsen - this was new to me until the recent RCS concert but I absolutely love it, the melodies, dissonance/harmonies, different languages, everything.

Beautiful - Carole King - this is the one to cheer up everybody - if you don’t believe me, check it out!
